I don't see why he's a tool, seems like a clean example. Not having an airbag is retarded, but otherwise I don't have any complaints.

It is clean, and has probably been well maintained. But the way the article is written (e.g. "HELLA FLUSH BRO") makes him sound like a tool. Along with the picture I chose as the thumbnail.

I also forgot that I always post these without actually saying what I think. Broke my own rules, and for that I apologize.

More importantly, he has a shopping list of maintenance done to the car. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Yes, a clean '91 with probably a SNC that just had a timing belt done. Unless a reputable Miata shop did the job, that motor could very well be toast. He is also kidding himself that a miata on those shitty coilovers can go for $6,000. That car is at best a $4,000 car with the hard top. With out the hard top I wouldn't pay more than $3,200 and that is even more than I would want to pay. His mods did nothing but hurt the value of an otherwise nice Miata.

That car is wayyyyyyyyy over priced. You have to consider if the car is a short nosed crank car, and if it is, was the timing belt done by a reputable Miata shop or done by this stance fag? If it is a SNC car and the TB/WP job was done by this tool, RUN AWAY as he probably killed the motor in the process of maintenance. This guy is dreaming that his lowered Miata on shitty suspension is worth $6,000. Sure the hard top could be sold by its self anywhere from $7-900 it just depends on how long he wants to sit on it. There is no mention of the condition of the soft top and if the HT is there to replace a torn soft top the value of the car drops.

I wouldn't go near this car unless it was being offered for $2,000. No soft top or frame means there is some work to be done. I would go over that TB/WP job just to make sure it was done correctly. This guy is smoking some good shit, because he is asking low mileage garage queen unmolested money. I'd be surprised if he sells it at this price. Shit I'd be impressed if he sells it for more than $4,000. This is a huge crack pipe.

It's craigslist, he's not going to get 6k. Timing belts are easy, and the miata is non interference.

Hard tops themselves are pretty valuable, although it bothers me that the paint doesn't match.

Yeah they are easy, but the SNC possibility poses problems. It really looks like that hard top is there to replace the soft top that is missing. This is a basket case car which should really be a $2000 car.

I'm biased, but I wouldn't really mind no soft top. With a hard top I wouldn't really see much need for a convertible.

I understand that, I would trade my soft top for a hardtop only in a heart beat, but I would never pay a premium on a car that has no soft top frame and only a hardtop. That is what this guy is trying. He's asking low low mileage garage queen unmolested money for this stanced abomination.

sub 100k miles on a car that age is still pretty nice, but I'll agree it's no garage queen. I'm not debating price at all though if you read my initial post, though.

Sorry, I just think that there are better examples out there for better prices. An owner trying to sell a stance car at a premium is complete douchebaggery though.

Dude, salvage title, stock 90. 18x,000 miles. . . could prolly pick this one up on the cheap. . .

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/419033…

Needs a fender and a door, but again you could probably pick it up for a song and fenders and doors really are not that expensive. The only concerning thing is this new flooring and top he put on that cost 3 grand. . . A robins top is about 5-700 depending on options, plus install at a reputable shop would run another 300 or so. I'm more concerned about the rhino lining he put in there and pictures of that. . . But this should be able to be picked up on the cheap, bonus fact, no stance. . .

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/418867…

Last one, it comes with Manuel. Plus they don't know what they got. . . Not an M but comes with a hardtop. $2200 cash would probably buy this Manuel from them. . . It just probably comes with another $400 in work, but that should be done for all cars just bought. . . Baselining is a good practice. . .

You got me looking for Miatas for you. . . .

You've done some great CL work here. I could probably manage to sell my car and almost get that last one. Not sure I'd take those chances, though.

So...why can't you get a Miata? Also props for being in WA.

I don't know if I would trade an E36 for a Miata. But Really the cost of maintenance is so damn cheap on the Miata it is ridiculous. Timing belts are a days work with the tools for the seal and holding the crank. Parts for a known good TB/WP kit runs about 200 and that is for the TB, WP, cam and crank seals, valve cover gasket, CAS o-ring and I know I'm prolly missing some other NA specific part but really they are damn cheap and super easy to work on. Plus right now is the time to try and scoop one up for around 2 grand or less. Once the rain hits up north the prices should drop more as well.

I just wanted to show you that there are great Miatas out there that haven't been molested and that are affordable. If you see Megan or Riceland coilovers run the fuck away or talk them down in price as you will want to ditch that suspension. Also if you find a car with flashy rims tell them to keep them and buy a set of stock daisies for ~$25-50 each and save another $5-800 off some ricers asking price. High mileage is perfectly normal for Miatas as long as they've been maintained. Also the NA's have a loud clatter on start up from the HLA's, it is normal and can be minimized with an oil change, and you can use that as a bargaining chip with a dealer or not so knowledgeable seller.

Maintenance is really the reason I would even consider trading. Maintenance and gas mileage. If my E36 was in great condition, I wouldn't ever give it up.

I'm glad you sent me the links, I'm trying to get my brother to buy a Miata. He doesn't have enough saved up yet, but I like to show him what's out there. If I ever see the word "coilovers," I run away fast. Thanks for the tips, they will come in handy someday.

No worries man. When the time comes to trade the E36 in for a Miata, or your brother decides on one, check out Miata.net for the check list and there is a wealth of knowledge there to be soaked in. Most likely if you post a link to the cars you are looking at up in the pricing section the more experienced Miata buyers chime in and let you know what it is worth paying for. Not all coilovers are a dead giveaway to run from the car, just use it as a bargaining chip to lower the price. Really haggling is the way to go and don't be afraid to go to a used car lot for one, just have your negotiator hat on and inspect every little bit of the car and run down the Miata checklist to find potential maintenance items to help you bargain. There are common issues like the clutch master and slave that go bad constantly and a not so knowledgable seller may be willing to lower the price. Basically be as skeezy as you can to lower the price on a Miata, they are not collectors cars and really only low mile stock NAs should be above the $4500 mark, NBs run anywhere from $3-7000 with the 01+ cars fetching a bit more of a premium. The right car is out there for you and your brother it is just a matter of saving for it and finding the right one. Just make sure you check out a few before you decide on one. All the maintenance jobs like the TB/WP are pretty easy and if you do end up needing to do that job, it will take you about 6-8 hours to do depending on how dirty the engine was and how proficient you are mechanically. I ended up buying the Flyin Miata TB tools to do mine and it was worth it.

I'm just trying to nudge you into Miata ownership if you can't tell. I've lost track of how many times we've had this discussion on Oppo. . . . Hahaha
